Galleria mellonella larvae have become a widely accepted and utilised infection model due to the functional homology displayed between their immune response that observed in mammalian innate response. Due these similarities, comparable results murine studies can be obtained using G. assessing virulence of fungal pathogens vivo toxicity or efficacy anti-fungal agents. This coupled with low cost, rapid generation results, lack ethical/legal considerations make this very attractive for analysis host-pathogen interactions. The successfully been analyse various factors including toxin enzyme production providing depth processes involved establishment progression (e.g., Candida spps, Aspergillus spp., Madurella mycetomatis, Mucormycetes , Cryptococcus neoformans ). A variety experimental endpoints employed burdens, alterations haemocyte density sub-populations, melanisation, characterisation proteomic, histological imaging techniques.
